Looking for a job in the graphic design bussiness.?

I have my 2yr in studio art and i'm finshing up my 4yr in graphic design. I don't have a portfolio and I was wondering what is the best way to get my foot in the door so by the time i graduate may 08, I'll have a steady job. I've taken the foundation course...so all i have left is the core classes towards graphic design. If anyone has any advice please write me. thank you. Constance. I'm probably not the best person for advice, because I'm only really starting out a career in graphic design. But I can tell you what you should do, that I didn't which would probably get you off to a better start then me.
So the first thing to do while your still in school ---my biggest mistake. GET AN INTERNSHIP Though it's not impossible to get a job without one, it makes it a ton harder. Because you'll either be under qualified or overqualified for a lot of different things. If you can't get an internship then volunteer to do some work for a real organization, Any kind of work experience you can find will help alot.

Secondly is to build your portfolio-- do anything you can get your hands on to fill it up with stuff other than school projects.

Those are the two best pieces of advice I can offer, leave college with some experience under your belt and have a good portfolio to back up your resume. If you have both of those things then you will be able to get a job, (hopefully)

It's taken me a year since graduation to finally find some part time graphic design work- it's hard to get into but if you don't give up I'm sure you'll figure it
