Does anyone know anything about graphic design for video games?

I might want to study graphic design in school. I am interesting in designing the background/surroundings of some games, but not sure what I need to do? Just looking some more information. Thanks! Know that if want to do concept art, designing of characters, 3d designing of characters, and objects in game, background painting/art,

You should study "Illustration" not "Graphical Design".

Graphic Design is more about colour compositions, photo manipulation, and typography, it is more for those that desire to do advertisements, logos, posters and designing the layout of magazines.

Illustration is more "art" based, the teaching of how to create images, be it for hand, with watercolour, and these days on the computer both with Coral Painter and 3D Max.

Graphic Design will also involve drawing classes, but a lot more is done on Photoshop, and focuses a lot more on fonts and compositions.

Anyway, a common mistake to make, most computer game art these days are done by people with an Illustrator background. (Though that does not mean a person with a Graphic Design background, can't.)
